The artist's work is only half of it. How you care for your tattoo after matters just as much, especially with Bali's sun, humidity, and beach days. Good aftercare in the first month is what keeps your lines crisp and your color vibrant for years.
Stage-by-Stage Healing Timeline
Initial Wrap & First Wash
Your fresh tattoo is an open skin surface. The first 72 hours are critical for preventing infection and allowing your body's natural plasma barrier to form without disturbance.
- SecondSkin: Keep on for 3 to 5 days unless seal breaks or leaks.
- Plastic Film Wrap: Remove after 2 to 4 hours.
- Wash gently with lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap.
- Pat dry with clean disposable paper towels (never use cloth towels).
Peeling, Itching & Moisture
As the skin starts to flake like a light sunburn, you will experience itching. Keep the area lightly moisturized with our provided ointment so scabs stay soft and fall away naturally.
- Apply a very thin layer of aftercare balm 2–3 times daily.
- Do not suffocate the skin—less balm is more.
- Never scratch, rub, or pick flaking skin.
- Wear loose, soft cotton clothing.
Deep Skin Renewal
The surface skin has sealed, but the deeper dermal layers where the ink lives are still actively regenerating. Keep your skin hydrated daily to ensure smooth pigment settling.
- Switch from balm to a light fragrance-free body lotion (Cetaphil / CeraVe).
- Milky, shiny skin appearance is normal as the new top layer forms.
- Continue avoiding prolonged soaking in water.
Lifelong Sun Protection
UV radiation from the tropical Bali sun is the number one cause of tattoo fading over time. Daily sunscreen keeps your fine lines crisp, blacks deep, and colors vibrant for decades.
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen daily before sun exposure.
- Keep skin moisturized to maintain line sharpness.
- Free touch-up consultation available within 3 months if needed.

What to Do
- Wash your hands with soap before touching your fresh tattoo.
- Use lukewarm water and gentle, fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
- Pat dry with fresh, disposable paper towels instead of bath towels.
- Apply aftercare ointment in thin, breathable layers.
- Wear loose, breathable cotton clothing over the tattoo.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within.
What to Avoid in Bali
- No swimming in the ocean, surfing, hotel pools, or bathtubs for 2–3 weeks.
- No direct sun exposure, tanning, or beach sunbathing while healing.
- No picking, scratching, or peeling flaking skin and scabs.
- No heavy workouts, gym sessions, saunas, or excessive sweating for 48–72 hours.
- No thick layers of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) that block oxygen.
- No tight, abrasive, or synthetic clothing rubbing against the tattoo.

Yes, completely normal. Your body produces natural plasma and releases excess pigment during the first 24–48 hours, creating a dark fluid pocket under the film. As long as the film remains sealed and is not leaking, leave it on.
We strictly recommend waiting at least 14 to 21 days before swimming in the ocean, surfing, or soaking in pools. Tropical waters carry bacteria that can easily infect healing skin.
